Posted by CASEY PEARSON on 3/26/2019

Classified At the Board of Education meeting on Monday, March 25, Matt Halsey, who works as the campus monitor at Franklin Middle School, was named the 2019 Classified Employee of the Year by the District 6 Classified Council.

He started his career with District 6 in October 2015.  He was born and raised in Greeley and is a product of District 6 schools.  Matt attended Scott Elementary School Brentwood Middle School and graduated from Greeley West High School in 2006.

Matt has taken on many responsibilities at Franklin, including campus security, coaching, working with special education students, helping with after-school sports, having many conversations with students and lunch duty. Matt especially enjoys working with the students and says that is his favorite part of the job.

In his free time Matt enjoys playing basketball, refereeing high school basketball and being a youth baseball umpire. Matt's greatest passion is his 3-year-old son, Tate.

Liz Doolittle, a sixth grade English teacher at Franklin, and one of Matt's nominators had this to say about Matt, "Matt is arguably the most valuable non-instructional employee at Franklin, and without a doubt the most reliable. He is the most kind, humble and affirming person I have met here at Franklin and it is so comforting to me as a new teacher to know that there is someone who will always be there for me and our students. Matt is the very definition of an outstanding classified employee."

Matt received an award from the Classified Council and was honored by the Board of Education. The Classified Employee of the Year is selected by a committee comprised of members of the Classified Council.

  • District 6 receives state grant for boiler replacement

Posted by CASEY PEARSON on 3/22/2019

Greeley-Evans School District 6 has been awarded a competitive grant from the Colorado Energy Office to replace aging boilers at one of its elementary schools.

The Energy Savings for Schools Supplemental Environmental Projects Grant has reimbursed District 6 for more than $120,000 to replace two boilers at Jackson Elementary School, providing greater reliability and efficiency to the school’s heating system.

The boilers at Jackson were actually replaced in October 2018, and the grant will reimburse District 6 for most of the cost of that project. District 6 provided $12,000 in matching funds to receive the grant.

“We, as a district, continue to look for opportunities such as this grant to help address our critical facility needs,” said Superintendent Dr. Deirdre Pilch. “It helps us leverage our limited resources for capital improvements while doing maintenance that is necessary to keep our learning environments comfortable and safe for our students.”

  • District 6 contract negotiations continue today

Posted by CASEY PEARSON on 1/17/2019

The following is a joint statement from the Negotiations Team:

Today, a team of educators from the Greeley Education Association, administrators and Board of Education members in Greeley-Evans School District 6 continued meeting to identify issues that need to be addressed by smaller work groups over the next few months.

The group heard information about the early preliminary budget estimates from Chief Financial Officer Meggan Sponsler. This information also included anticipated expenses including the advancement of the salary schedule for educators as well as a similar increase for classified staff. Ms. Sponsler also provided estimates for what it would cost to address additional compensation issues, such as increasing base pay for teachers, addressing a previous issue from past contracts called the crossover key and compensating those employees who had their salary frozen back in the 2009-10 school year. A compensation committee will reconvene in February and as more information is available from the state about funding the School Finance Act, a compensation package will be brought back to the entire team, probably in April.
