Holiday Food Drive
We are beginning our Holiday Food Drive to Support the Husky Hub! Earn points for a chance to pie Mrs. Ramirez, Mrs. Meredith AND Ms. Tannel. We are accepting non-perishable, shelf stable food and toiletries. The food drive will begin November 27th and end December 15th. Bring money and/or food to school.
Counselor’s Corner Newsletter
This newsletter is updated monthly and linked on the bottom right side of our weekly newsletter. Our counselor Mrs. Mora shares what we are doing in regards to emotional wellness. If you haven’t checked it out recently, please do so. This month the big idea across our school is Managing Emotions. All students in their weekly social emotional lesson are learning strategies to manage their emotions.

Wreaths Across America Donations
Nancy Crutchfield from Wreaths Across America sent a thank you card to Heiman Elementary. Your donations totaled $309.64 this year and they are very thankful that our school is one of the top donors each year. Thank you for being such generous donors!
Ugly Sweater Day
We like to make ugly winter sweater day a whole school event, not just for the adults at Heiman. We hope that your child considers participating in this fun spirit day this Friday. No need to purchase a sweater, just decorate one you have at home already. The more obnoxious...the better!
Essential Information
Lost and Found
Our lost and found is overflowing with coats, gloves, hats and lunchboxes. Please remind your student to check for lost items. Items still in the lost and found by winter break will be donated.
Open Enrollment
-
Families interested in enrolling their child or children in a school outside their home boundary for the 2024-2025 School Year will have from November 1, 2023 through December 20, 2023 to complete an open enrollment application and be included in a school's lottery. Any applications received after the open enrollment period will be placed on a waitlist and will be considered based on additional open seats at that grade level.

Adjustments to Pickup procedures starting September 18, 2023
Currently, we have a drop-off/pickup area by the blacktop/playground which is marked off by chains. To the south, and along the red curb, we have a staging area for vehicles entering the drop-off/pickup. The number of vehicles waiting has outgrown our staging area. We see vehicles stopped (“staging”) east and west on Milan Street as well as south of the crosswalk on Palermo. This has created a lot of confusion and is unsafe for our students.
We, therefore, have created an extension to the “staging” area for afterschool pickup. This will now be the area east of the crosswalk along Milan Street. Signage will be added to the fence to remind everyone. There will be NO PARKING on Milan along the south edge of the school playground, on school days, between 2:30-3:30 to keep vehicles moving. You will NOT be granted access to the staging area/pick-up lane from Palmero (south of crosswalk) or Milan (west of crosswalk). You will have to enter by heading west on Milan and turning right onto Palermo.
We are requesting EVERYONE utilizing the pickup lane after school follow these instructions. We’ve attached a map, with directional arrows, to guide you. There will also be signage at each corner as well.
If you have any questions/concerns, please reach out to Teresa McClatchey @ 970-590-1504. Thank you.
