Message from the principal-September 21, 2020
We want to thank everyone for all you’ve done to keep your family, other students and staff healthy. We are happy to be moving into week 6 of in person learning. Just a reminder to keep your child at home if she or he has 1 major symptom or 2 minor symptoms linked to COVID-19. If they do stay home, we ask that you wait at least 48 hours for the symptoms to completely resolve and see your doctor if they don’t resolve within that time period. You should also make sure you have spoken with one of our administrators or the school nurse before returning just to be sure the transition is such that we keep everyone safe.
On Wednesday, September 23rd, the Nutrition Services Department will be offering an outdoors Farmer's Market event for the families at Heiman from 3:00-3:30. Members of our district nutrition services department will be at 5 different locations around the outside of the school building handing out fun and unique produce items FREE to all Heiman families. A nutrition education and recipe resource sheet will accompany each sack as well.
The USDA has granted permission for school meals to be offered to all kids, regardless of meal eligibility. That means that all students can eat for free. Nutrition Services is setting up access for our online learners as well as in-person learners. Please use the link below for menus and additional information from our Nutrition Services department. https://www.greeleyschools.org/Domain/817
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held virtually instead of in person. Conferences will be Monday, September 28th and Thursday, October 1st. Your child’s classroom teacher will be sending out information this week confirming the time of your conference. If you do not have internet or would prefer a phone conference, please let the teacher know and provide a good phone number to use for that conference.
Finally, You’re invited to shop our Scholastic Book Fair online from September 25-October 8! All purchases benefit our school and connect kids with new books, favorite characters, complete series, and more. You’ll love the NEW option to shop for Book Fair exclusives directly from the interactive booklist and enjoy special online shopping features! Keep an eye out in our communications for more information coming soon!
It is vitally important that parents keep sick children home. We need you to keep your child home if your child or someone in your home is showing one of these major symptoms of COVID-19:
- Feeling feverish or having chills or a temperature of 100.0 F or greater
- New or unexplained persistent cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Loss of taste or smell
In addition, please keep your child at home and contact your child’s healthcare provider if they, or someone in your home is experiencing two or more of these minor symptoms:
- Sore throat
- Runny nose or congestion
- Muscle or body aches
- Nausea or vomiting
Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me by email at email@example.com.
Families can help prevent the spread of any infectious illness by implementing these simple practices:
- Wash your hands, and ensure your children are washing their hands frequently and for at least 20 seconds. This is especially important after going to the bathroom, before eating or after coughing or blowing your nose.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, and teach your children to refrain touching their faces.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces by using regular household cleaning sprays and wipes.
- And most importantly, stay home if you are sick and keep your child home if he or she is sick! This is the most effective way of stopping the spread of illness.
If you or your child are ill, please call your physician’s office. They will want to know the symptoms you or your child are experiencing before you visit the doctor’s office.

Our school has been participating in Boxtops for Education program for a long time. This program is going digital. From now on we will not be accepting physical Boxtops here at school. Instead, we ask that you download the app and do all Boxtops for Education digitally. It’s as easy as scanning your receipt. Make sure to select Ann K. Heiman as your school! We’ve earned $117.70 so far this year; families can continue to scan the box tops even through the summer!
