NUTRITION SERVICES AND HIGH PLAINS LIBRARY DISTRICT OPEN SEED LIBRARY
In collaboration with the High Plains Library District, D6 Nutrition Services is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Greeley-Evans Community Seed Library! Located at Centennial Park Library (2227 23rd Ave, Greeley, CO 80634), the Seed Library is a free public resource for community members to “borrow” fruit and vegetable seeds, learn about organic gardening and nutrition, and practice seed-saving techniques.
The Seed Library functions similarly to book libraries; the only difference is that seeds are being loaned and returned, not books. Patrons can borrow seeds from the library to grow their own food. Patrons are then encouraged to tend to their plants, save some seeds, and return them to the Seed Library so others have an opportunity to access these seeds during future growing seasons. While not required to borrow seeds from the Seed Library, patrons are also encouraged to sign up for a seed library membership. Membership is free and will give patrons access to gardening and nutrition-related classes taught by community experts.
Interested in learning more about the Greeley-Evans Community Seed Library? Email Rachel Garcia, D6 Farm to School Coordinator, at rgarcia29@greeleyschools.org or Timothy Ruth, Outreach Librarian, at truth@highplains.us.
VOLUNTEERING/FIELD TRIP CHAPERONES
It’s that time of year and we are super excited that most of our students are able to go on end of year field trips. If you would like to be a chaperone – Please check with your student’s teacher. You will also need to fill out a volunteer application if you do not have a current one. The application can be found at www.greeleyschools.org/volunteer. It only takes a few minutes and is good for an entire year.
In addition to field trips, we still have opportunities for volunteers through the end of the school year.
