Community members are invited to tour the new addition at McAuliffe STEM Academy at a public open house at 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 25. The school is located on 4th Street and 51st Avenue in Greeley.
The 50,000 square foot addition to McAuliffe is the first major project to be completed that was funded through the 2019 bond issue. It includes a larger gymnasium, new secure front office and entrance, expanded cafeteria, new STEM labs and a new wing of classrooms. This addition means that 16 portable classrooms will be removed from the campus and all students will be learning inside the school.
Community members are invited to tour the new addition as well as areas of the old school building that were renovated during the project. The entrance to the school is now on the north side of the building, facing 4th Street. Those who attend can park in the north lot in front of the school or the south lot that is now behind the school. All those who attend the open house must wear a mask inside the school.
"Since our decision in 2016 to move McAuliffe to a K-8 STEM-focused school, the demand for this program has grown and they quickly outgrew their existing building," said Superintendent Dr. Deirdre Pilch. "By nearly doubling the size of this building, we were able to right-size the school and bring all the students inside the main building, improving learning and safety. We are grateful to the voters of Greeley and Evans for passing the bond issue in 2019 that funded this and many, many other projects in District 6."
Other bond projects slated for completion in August 2022 include the new Greeley West High School, the new Tointon Academy of Pre-Engineering and a large addition at Chappelow Arts Magnet. Other smaller remodeling and upgrading projects, including constructing secure entrances, have already been completed at six District 6 schools, in addition to projects completed at some charter schools. More projects, including the rebuilding of Madison Elementary School, will begin this spring. Work on the bond projects is schedule through 2025.
