"Madison is the epitome of a leader both through sport and daily life. She leads by example and is dedicated to the process of bettering herself and team. She has been a two-year team captain for cross country and a dedicated member of our Athlete Summit leadership group. Madison recently completed her senior cross country season as a four-year varsity runner. She also competed at the 3A CHSAA State Cross Country Championships all four years, culminating with her 14th place finish this year. Tell us about your greatest athletic achievement to date:
"My greatest athletic achievement is having the opportunity to run at state cross country for all four years of high school."
What are your goals for this season?
"My goals for the season are to podium at state and lead my girls team."
How do athletics make you a better student?
"By participating in athletics, I have been given the opportunity to learn valuable leadership and time management skills which is very applicable to my success in academics."
What mental tool do you use when you're under pressure?
"When I am under pressure, I remember to ground myself by taking a second to breathe, and remembering that I am here for a reason."
What is the best part about competing?
"Competing brings me happiness because by racing next to girls who put in just as much work as me, I am able to create synergy within the competition which is sort of peaceful and illuminating to happen."
What are your career or college plans after you graduate high school?
"I plan to attend college and study kinesiology and exercise science. In the future, I plan to become a physical therapist."
What advice do you have for younger athletes who want to join your sport?
"Running is intimidating. I even know that after doing it for four years, so don't be scared of it and just give it a shot. It is life changing, and you'll make some of your greatest friends during the process."
What is your favorite song to listen to prior to competing?
"'Champion' by Kanye or 'Empire State of Mind' by Jay-Z."
What is your go-to Pre-Competition food?
"Freeze-dried strawberries!!"
