District 6 Message on Attack on U.S. Capitol
The events at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday were an attack on our nation and our democracy, and the images on TV and social media were frightening. While order has been restored, we know these images and events can create anxiety and fear for both children and adults.
Our first priority in Greeley-Evans School District 6 is the physical safety and emotional well-being of our students and staff. Our schools are safe, and we will continue to ensure the wellbeing of everyone who learns and works in District 6.
The significant events of January 6, 2021, have and will continue to generate discussions in our classrooms. Here are a few resources for educators as they help students understand and process these events.
-
Witnessing history: Teachers and students left reeling, looking for lessons in an insurrection

We can’t gaslight students about the Capitol riot. We can use it as a teacher tool.

For families who may need assistance at home, please refer them to Colorado Crisis Services at 1-844-493-TALK, or they can text TALK to 38255. As always, Safe2Tell is another resource; families and students can call 1-877-542-7233.
Staff looking for additional resources should also visit our Systems of Support webpage.
This continues to be a very unsettled time in our nation and our communities. We, as public educators, can and should be part of the solution. Let us once again come together for the good of our students, families and District 6. Thank you for supporting our students and each other. We are District 6.
Kind regards,
Deirdre
