IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM SUPERINTENDENT DR. DEIRDRE PILCH: Update on Remote Learning
District 6 families,
As some of you may have already heard, some school districts in Colorado have made the decision to keep school buildings closed and continue with remote learning for the remainder of the school year. Today, Greeley-Evans School District 6 is choosing not to join these districts. Like District 6, most school districts in Weld County are waiting for additional data and recommendations from the state and county health officials.
This week, Governor Jared Polis issued an order for all schools in Colorado to stop in-person learning through April 30. For now, that is the date that District 6 is working toward.
We know COVID-19 is still spreading. We are receiving regular updates from our Weld County Health Department and we know this health crisis is going to get worse before it gets better. We know school buildings may need to be closed for the remainder of the school year. We are planning for that possibility.
Yet, if there is even a glimmer of hope that we might be able to gather again as a school community before the end of May, we want to hold onto it - for our students, for our staff and for our parents. We fully realize this may not happen
and we still believe in the power of hope.
Remote learning is going well and will only get better as our staff and students become more comfortable with this educational environment. Yes, there have been some glitches, as there are with any new ventures. We are working through them, and we appreciate our educators and administrators who are working so hard to ensure that students are engaged and learning. We appreciate families who are helping their students maneuver this new learning environment. We are grateful to have students back--learning and engaging with educators and peers.
We have a plan to continue remote learning throughout the remainder of the school year if necessary. We are working on plans to honor our graduates in a new way if traditional graduations are not possible. We are planning, and we are still hoping.
We know this is a fast-changing environment, and we appreciate your ongoing patience. Decisions may need to be made quickly to respond to the information we receive from health and government officials. For now, we are staying the course and will continue with remote learning through April 30. We do not see any advantage right now to stop in-person learning through the end of the school year. That may change, but not today.
Thank you for coming along with us as we work together for the good of our children. We will get through this together, and together we are District 6.
Stay healthy,
Deirdre Pilch, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
Mantenganse saludables,
Deirdre Pilch, Ed.D.
