Update from Superintendent Dr. Deirdre Pilch
Thank you for your help today in keeping your children home. The safety of our students is our highest priority. Even though there was no direct threat against any of our schools, I closed our schools to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
We have received information through the media that there has been a resolution to the threat that caused us to close school today. Our plan right now is to open all schools and district sites tomorrow. We are working diligently with local law enforcement, our security staff, and all our school staff to continue to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We have strong safety protocols in place.
Please find attached some information for talking with children of varying ages about violence and potential acts of violence. We hope that you will use this to help your children understand and work through this situation. We also understand that younger children may not be aware of why school was closed today; however, returning to school they may hear information from other students. If you do talk to your children about this, please reference these materials.
In addition, counselors will be available throughout the district the remainder of the week to work with any students who might need additional support. Please communicate with your school administration if your child needs to access this support or if you have questions or concerns.
We will be sending another communication out later in the day to share plans for the next few days.
Kind Regards,
Deirdre Pilch, EdD
Superintendent of Schools
