Welcome Back to School District 6!
Dear District 6 Families:
Welcome back to District 6 and to a new school year! We are so excited to have your children back in our schools, learning and growing, and having more and more opportunities to succeed.
Our mission here in District 6 is to provide every student with a personalized, well-rounded and excellent education in a safe, caring environment. We are working hard to do just that.
Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting with each and every school staff. It filled me with joy, hope, and pride. Our staff is committed to ensuring your children are learning, that they are safe, that their needs are met and that they know they are loved.
As you and your children return to school this year, you will notice some changes, many of which are possible because of the passage of the Mill Levy Override in 2017. For instance, all our high schools now have security cameras. We have increased security with the check-in process for volunteers and visitors at all our sites. Greeley Central, Greeley West and Northridge high schools have many new computers for students to utilize. All our middle and high school students will be using new Language Arts, Math and World Languages curriculum, which includes some traditional textbooks as well as online digital content. Many of our schools have gotten or will get new roofs, some due to Mill Levy Override dollars and some due to grants from the state.
You may also notice that more of your child’s classes will be taught by two teachers, one who specializes in the content being delivered and one who will help assure that all students, no matter where they are academically, can access that content and grow as learners. This model of teaching, called co-teaching, will become more common. This is an effective, research-based model and should make a great difference in our student achievement. We are excited to have more of our students achieving at grade-level and beyond!
There is much more coming this year. Our strategic plan, Innovation2020, is being implemented in all schools. This plan is directing all our work in District 6, and I encourage you to look at the plan on our website at www.greeleyschools.org/Innovation2020.
A big part of Innovation2020 is improving our communication and engagement with you, our families. We want you to feel welcome in our schools. We want you to have access to the information you need about your student and how he or she is doing throughout the school year. We want to partner with you to ensure your student is college and career ready by the time they graduate high school. We want to support and lift your student so he or she can achieve every goal and dream. We want to provide you with important information throughout the year, so please ensure we have an accurate email address on file. You can check in your school office to make sure we have updated information on how to contact you.
Thank you for entrusting your children to us. We love serving them and want them to succeed. Please help us keep the lines of communication open by letting your child’s teacher or principal know when you have questions or concerns.
We are all in this together. I’m District 6 and you are as well. Let’s all enjoy a great school year together!
Kindest Regards,
Superintendent Dr. Deirdre Pilch
