Important Message from Superintendent Dr. Deirdre Pilch
Dear District 6 families,
Governor Jared Polis announced today that all schools in Colorado will be closed to in-person learning until April 30, 2020. Anticipating this announcement, we have plans in place to continue virtual education through that time. We absolutely believe this extended closure is important to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus and reduce the impact on our health care facilities.
We know this raises many questions for you about the remainder of the school year. We understand the uncertainty of this health crisis is difficult for families, students and our staff. Please know that we are here to support you and to continue school in this virtual environment.
All school activities and events are cancelled through April 30. The Colorado High School Athletic Association issued a statement today that all spring sports activities will be cancelled until April 30, and that this will be the last extension possible before a definitive decision is made on cancelling the season.
We know there are many questions around graduation. As of now, graduations are not cancelled, but District 6 is exploring alternative graduation ceremonies in the case this closure must be extended. In the event of an extension of the closure orders, we will have a plan in place to honor the Class of 2020.
Please continue your efforts to stay at home and only leave if you are obtaining essential services or shopping for food. We are in regular contact with health officials from Weld County and the State of Colorado, and they are telling us this outbreak is going to get much worse before it gets better. The good news from the Governor’s office today shows that social distancing and staying at home is beginning to make a difference, but we have a long way to go. This is a marathon, not a sprint, and we have to stay in the race for the health and wellbeing of ourselves and our loved ones.
Thank you for supporting your children as we launched virtual learning this week. As expected with something new, we have had glitches in our systems. We are working diligently to address issues and ensure that learning continues for all students. Please continue to reach out to your teachers if you have any questions or concerns about your student’s learning.
Again, we appreciate your patience, your support and your efforts to stay home. As these orders continue from the Governor, it is going to take all of us working together to get through this. We can do it! We have grit in Greeley and Evans, and we are District 6.
Kind Regards
Dr. Deirdre Pilch
Superintendent
