D6 Athlete of the Week - Averie Loma

D6 Athlete of the Week Logo

"Averie has been a member of the GWHS cheer team the past four years of high school. She exemplifies what it means to be a STUDENT athlete while also being a role model on the sidelines. Her focus and drive for excellence are qualities that will be missed when she graduates at the end of the school year. I'm extremely proud of the bright young woman she has grown into while being part of the cheerleading team here at Greeley West." - Brodie Subia, Head Cheer Coach

Tell us about your greatest athletic achievement to date:

"My greatest athletic achievement to date was Sweetheart Blast my Junior year when we only competed with only 9 athletes, and after many trials and tribulations, we ended up getting first place. It was an amazing achievement as it goes to show that anything is possible when you put your mind to it."

What are your goals for this season?

"My goals for this season is to finish out my senior year strong, letter for the fourth year, and get cleared from my ACL and Meniscal injury."

How do athletics make you a better student?

"Athletics make me a better student because it helps me prioritize what I need to get done in a timely manner. I also believe being an athlete encourages me to be a better thinker. When cheering on the sidelines or in competitions, I do tons of multitasking and am constantly thinking of what is coming next."

What mental tool do you use when you're under pressure?

"When I am under pressure, I visualize myself succeeding. Right before I compete, I close my eyes and go through the entire routine in my mind so I know what I need to do for my team."

What is the best part about competing?

"The adrenaline. Being on a competition floor is so unmatched, as the feeling of showing off all your hard work does not come regularly. I also love competing because it brings my team closer and more united as we experience it all together."

What are your career or college plans after you graduate high school?

"I plan to attend a four-year university to major in Psychology or Biomedical Sciences. After I get my bachelor's degree, I wish to continue my education to earn a Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies."

What advice do you have for younger athletes who want to join your sport?

"I would say to just go for it! It may seem scary or intimidating, but in the end, it is so worth it. Being the shcool's biggest cheerleaders is a privilege that I have been so lucky to have for my entire high school career."

What is your favorite song to listen to prior to competing?

"'Rock with You' by Michael Jackson."

What is your go-to Pre-Competition food?

"Inta Juice! Preferably, Strawberry Blast or Love Potion #9."
