District 6 announces plan for delayed graduations
All in-person graduations ceremonies for non-charter District 6 schools are postponed from May until the last week in July.
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and State of Colorado Safer at Home order, District 6 has made the decision to postpone graduations in the hope that some of the restrictions on gatherings will have lifted by late July to allow in-person ceremonies. District 6 will continue working with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment on guidelines and protocols for these planned ceremonies.
“We are so very sorry for our graduating seniors, and know this has been a particularly challenging time for them. They have missed out on many rites of passage. So, if there is any chance we can host an in-person ceremony for this class, we will do whatever we can to make that happen safely,” said Superintendent Dr. Deirdre Pilch. “We know this health crisis is changing rapidly, but we will move ahead with planning the ceremonies with the guidance and approval of health officials.”
All ceremonies will be held at District 6 Stadium and will begin at 8 a.m. Here is a schedule for the planned graduation ceremonies:
Tuesday, July 28: Early College Academy
Wednesday, July 29: Jefferson High School
Thursday, July 30: Northridge High School
Friday, July 31: Greeley Central High School
Saturday, August 1: Greeley West High School
Saturday, August 29: Greeley-Evans Alternative Program/Greeley NEXT
Based on guidance from health officials, there will likely be many restrictions on these ceremonies. These will be clearly communicated to staff, students and families prior the ceremonies. It is unknown at this time whether guests will be allowed to attend the graduation ceremonies. All graduations will be live streamed for remote viewing.
Charter schools are also working on graduation plans that they will be announcing at a later date.
