D6 students win prestigious Daniels Fund Scholarship

Four Greeley-Evans School District 6 seniors who will graduate in May have been notified they will receive the prestigious Daniels Scholarship.

Daniels Scholars receive up to $100,000 over four years towards their undergraduate degree, depending on financial need. Daniels Scholars may use their scholarship at any accredited nonprofit college or university anywhere in the United States. Students are selected for their strength of character, leadership potential, commitment to serving the community, and academic potential.

The District 6 Daniels Scholarship recipients for 2023 are:

  • Hailey Walter, Early College Academy
  • Kylee Wolfe, Greeley West High School
  • Raymond Castillo, Frontier Academy
  • Rhianon Hampton, University High School

More than 20,000 students applied for Daniels Scholarships this year. The foundation awarded 238 scholarships in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming this year.

The Daniels Fund awards scholarships based not only on academic success, but on the character, leadership qualities and commitment to contributing to the community exhibited by students.

"This is a very prestigious honor for these four students, and I am very proud of all they have accomplished to receive this scholarship," said Superintendent Dr. Deirdre Pilch. "Thank you also to the educators, counselors, administrators and families who helped these students reach this incredible goal. This scholarship will allow these students to reach all their post-secondary goals without any worry about the financial burden of college. I can't wait to see all they accomplish!"

Last year, six District 6 students received Daniels scholarships. Over the past 17 years, 115 District 6 scholars have received this competitive award.
