Good evening:

I have some important updates for families regarding new information to assist you while school buildings are closed. School will fully open in a virtual environment on Tuesday, March 31, following this week of extended spring break. This week your children may engage in enrichment and enhancement activities.

I need to emphasize how important it is for you and your children to stay home unless you need to obtain essential services. Social distancing of at least six feet, staying home and limiting your contact with all people outside your household is CRUCIAL to limit the spread of this virus. Health experts recommend children NOT play in person with friends or relatives they do not live with, and should not play in groups in parks or on playgrounds. Children are getting this virus and they are spreading it. Some children have become very sick. This virus is very contagious and spreading quickly. Please abide by the distancing recommendations. We recommend alternatives like allowing your children to play outside in your yard, going for walks or bike rides while avoiding other people who may be out, and having phone conversations, Face Time or virtual playdates with friends. Continue regular handwashing, especially if you do go outside or travel to obtain essential services.

Many of you have picked up Chromebooks for your child to use for online learning. If you have technical issues or questions regarding the device you have received, please email Or call  348-HELP (348-4357) for assistance. Beginning tomorrow, technicians will be available to provide assistance Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. These technicians can only help you with device issues; they cannot answer questions about the learning software and lessons your children will receive later this week. If you have questions regarding the programs your students are using for distance learning or enrichment, please reach out to your teacher.

Our food distribution service will continue this week at the schools as previously communicated. Because of the large number of families who came today to collect food, one breakfast and one lunch will be provided per student from now on. Distribution sites and times are located on our website at Next week, there may be changes in the locations for meal distribution. We will communicate those changes as soon as possible.

Finally, distance learning for all students will begin March 31. Our academic staff is diligently working on plans for all students to participate in online and virtual distance learning. More information about these learning plans will be sent to you later this week. Although learning will be different, school will be back in session virtually starting March 31. We appreciate you getting your students ready to return to their learning.

We appreciate your patience and grace as we work hard to ensure our families have what they need and our students are able to re-engage in their education. Please continue to check our website and Facebook page for more updates. Circumstances are changing rapidly, and we will continue to communicate new information on a regular basis.

Thank you for all you are doing to keep yourself and your children healthy and safe.

Kind regards,

Dr. Deirdre Pilch

Superintendent, Greeley-Evans School District 6
