Welcome Back to School, District 6!

Dear District 6 Families:

This is undoubtedly my favorite time of the year. We at Greeley-Evans School District 6 are so excited to welcome back nearly 23,000 students to our schools this week! It was fun seeing so many of our families at the School Kickoff Community Celebration Saturday, helping us welcome in a new school year. And being in schools today, watching the faces of the kids as they greeted each other and their teachers, makes me so happy and grateful to be part of District 6.

Our staff and I were delighted to have so many of your students this summer for our extended school year programs. Some of our students received extra help in reading and math, some learned a new skill like dancing or cooking, and some built rockets and did science experiments. Hundreds of students took advantage of these free summer programs, which were made possible through the Mill Levy Override dollars we began receiving from a voter approved ballot measure in 2017.

That same ballot initiative will bring new social studies curriculum to our middle and high schools this year. We continue to put new computers and other technology in our schools thanks to those dollars.

We are planning to get even more resources for our schools with a bond issue our Board of Education has voted to include on the November 2019 ballot. This initiative is for buildings and equipment only. It will help address some of the capacity issues at our schools that are overcrowded, as well as enhance safety and security at EVERY school and make some much-needed repairs and renovations.  We will be providing you more information on this important bond issue after the school year is underway.

I encourage you to get involved in your school and your child’s education. Read to your child every night. Attend Back To School nights and parent/teacher conferences. Join your School Accountability Committee or parent organization, engage your child in conversations about what they are learning or volunteer at your child’s school. Being part of  your students’ learning helps with their success. We welcome our families to get involved in our schools.

We have nearly 3,000 educators, principals and assistant principals, and support staff who are here to serve you and your students. It is the reason we get up in the morning and the reason we go to work every day. Please get to know your child’s teacher, principal, counselor, bus driver, building manager - anyone who can make you and your student’s learning experience the best it can be.

We are District 6, and we are honored to serve you. I hope you and your child or children have a fantastic school year. Welcome back!
