D6 Athlete of the Week - Xavier "Niko" Sanchez

Congratulations to D6 Athlete of the Week Xavier "Niko" Sanchez from Greeley Central High School! Niko was the only cross country runner from Greeley Central High School to qualify for the 2023 Colorado high school state cross country championships on October 28th, 2023. Despite being rear-ended by another driver on the way to the state championships and barely making it to the meet on time, the Wildcat ran valiantly, and represented the Castle well. We look forward to seeing how this runner does next season!

"My greatest achievements were qualifying for state and breaking 17 minutes in the 5K." 

What are your goals for this season? 

"Breaking the 3200 meter record." 

How do athletics make you a better student?

"By being more disciplined and understanding work hard, play hard." 

What mental tool do you use when you're under pressure?

"You got to give people a show." 

What is the best part about competing?

"Representing your school."  

What are your career or college plans after you graduate high school?

"I want to become a dietitian, and pursue the Olympics for the marathon." 

What advice do you have for younger athletes who want to join your sport?

"Listen to your body!!!"

What is your favorite song to listen to prior to competing?

"Peanut butter toast."
