Members of the Design Advisory Group joined District 6 staff and members of the Board of Education touring four recently-constructed middle schools in the region on Friday, March 29. The group traveled by school bus to view schools in Aurora, Longmont, Fort Collins and Severance to get ideas about what designs might be appropriate for the new middle school in District 6. The group was able to view many innovative designs that utilize new technologies and allow for the efficient use of resources. It was an informative trip.
District 6 has sent out a request for bid for a geotechnical engineering firm to help with site development for the new middle school. The district will also soon be posting for a traffic engineer to complete a traffic study near the site.
District 6 was also accepted into the Xcel Energy Design Assistance program, which will help look at the most efficient ways to bring energy to the new school. The district will even look into the possibility of using geothermal energy at thesite.
The Design Advisory Group and District 6 staff continue to look at different designs, classroom needs and use of space in the new school. The DAG will meet again the evening of April 15.
